Weird plotting issues, can't find underlying cause

I've recently working on a new PC at work, which gives me some ... issues. Aside from the standard work-related issues (Notepad++ is NOT A SECURITY RISK), functionality approaches a normal level. However, I've had some pretty annoying issues with some plotting functions. I use the Fieldtrip-toolbox for EEG analysis, which gives me some visual artefacts (note the axes):
Eventually, I made the same picture on my old Asus EEE PC, and it looked fine. So I ignored the issue for a while. Now I'm working on some basic data analysis, and came across the following problem:
Aside from my obvious misuse of patches, the rest usually looks fine. Exept for the boxes in the middle, which are the result of me trying to zoom. I clicked in the middle (45,1, roughly), quickly dragged my mouse somewhere (75,0, roughly), and dragged it back to the middle. Then I slowly dragged my mouse to somewhere else (25,2, roughly), pressed 'alt+prtscrn', and finally released the mouse button. The plot zoomed, and the boxes where gone.
Now, I'm thinking these issues are due to the same underlying problem, which I can't find. I've tried the Fieldtrip-image-generating script with several options ('zbuffer', 'openGL', 'painters'), I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and I've tried using Matlab 2013a and 2011a, all with the same result.
Does my issue look somewhat familiar to someone here on the forum?
