Fetching data from Access query in MATLAB

I have the database toolbox and have been able to import Access table data into MATLAB using the fetch command. When I use the same process to try and fetch data from an Access query I'm getting an invalid cursor error. Here is the SQL statement I'm using in MATLAB.

curs = exec(conn,'select Return_Value from qry_DFAMonthly');

I'm getting the following error message:

Message: 'Invalid Cursor: ODBC Driver Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Undefined f...'

There seems to be something wrong with your database connection, or your query does not exist, or the field. Check those three items.
