hi all,
i am running matlab software in windows 7. the software version is R2010b now when i open a multiple .m files they all open in multiple matlab instance. however when i was using the matlab on windows xp then all the .m files use to open in one editor in different tab however now it is opening in different instance of matlab. i mean everytime i open a .m file the whole new matlab software open instead of opening in one matlab software with multiple tab

Are you running MATLAB as Administrator? If not then the above solution does not apply.

How did you "open" a .m file? Double click it outside of MATLAB?

I would suggest you contact customer support about this. I believe there are a number of issues which can cause this behavior with a number of different solutions (the link Fangjun provided is one of them). Customer support will be much more willing, and capable, of walking you through step by step.
