Is it possible to simulate a synchronous generator starting from rest in Simulink ( like Blackstart )??

Well same as the questions mentioned just need to know that whether blackstarting a generator is possible to simulate a grid startin, because I have come to know that some blocks don't model all functionality of a machine or are just approximation. So don't want to spend time modelling a system only to discover that model block doesn't support it.

HI @Yash,
Yes, it is possible to simulate a black-start style synchronous generator startup in Simulink/Simscape Electrical, but the block choice matters a lot.
Here are some suggestions:
  • For a true start-from-rest / black-start study, use the detailed time-domain Simscape Electrical machine blocks, especially Synchronous Machine Round Rotor or Synchronous Machine Salient Pole, with a field circuit, excitation system, shaft inertia, and prime mover/governor model.
  • Do not use the simplified machine or a phasor/load-flow-style setup if your goal is startup from zero speed. Those are useful for system-level or near-rated operating studies, but they are not the right first choice for zero-speed voltage buildup, frequency ramp, transformer energization, or staged load pickup.
  • Important caveat: a synchronous generator does not “start itself” electrically as a generator. You must model a prime mover or starter torque that accelerates the shaft from rest.
  • The machine blocks can model the electromechanical and field dynamics needed for that, but they will not automatically model every real-world detail. Residual magnetism, diesel/turbine startup physics, breaker arc behavior, protection relays, exciter auxiliary power constraints, transformer hysteresis, and detailed saturation/inrush behavior may need explicit modeling depending on how realistic you need the study to be.
So the practical answer is: yes, black-start/grid-start simulation is feasible in Simulink, but build a small proof-of-concept first using a detailed synchronous machine, torque source/prime mover, field circuit/exciter, open breaker, and dead bus. If that small model starts from 0 speed and builds voltage correctly for your assumptions, then scale up the network.
Regards,
Matt
