I have a Sony Cybershot. For the model I have, the only thing that can be done is to connect the Cybershot to a USB port, which will trigger the Cybershot to go into disk emulation mode, allowing you to read the files through normal means (i.e., just use appropriate paths.) On the Cybershot model I have, there is no possibility to control operation of the Cybershot over the USB port.
Perhaps your Cybershot has more advanced capabilities. If so we will probably need to model number to do the research.

That cannot be done with the cybershot model I own. If you indicate the model number of your cybershot, we could have a look around to see if your model has more advanced capabilities.

How about Sony cybershot DSC-T9000?

There does not appear to be any DSC-T9000 model. The DSC-T900 model can only connect in disk mode, except that it is also able to download .mp3 files by command from the rear interface.

Are you trying to import images directly from Sony Cybershot to MATLAB inorder to process them ?If yes then you might also check Image Acquisition Tool Box features which can come in handy.
