Why are campos and view interlocked??

Hi everyone,
I've been playing around with these two parameters for an hour and it seems whenever you change one of them, the other will change automatically. What I want to do is to have the camera positioned at say [1,1,1] and have it viewing along the x-axis (i.e. a line parallel to the x-axis which passes through [1,1,1]). Does anyone know if there is a way to do that? Thanks a lot!!

Set the axes CameraPosition and CameraTarget properties?
