EHfield function in MATLAB produces 3 x 441 matrix. What do these rows and column represent?

Hi,

I have a doubt regarding the EHfields function in MATLAB.

When I use the EHfields to extract the E and H fields in a seperate variable, say; [E,H] = EHfields(arrayname,freq), it yields two different matrix for E-field and H-field. The size of these matrix is 3 x 441. I want to know, what do these 3 rows and 441 column represent?

Also can I use these fields values to plot amplitude and phase distribution on a transverse plane? If Yes, then how can I proceed?

The 3 rows in the E and H matrices represent the x, y and z component of the E and H fields. This is calculated at points on the surface of a sphere whose radius is twice that of the radius of a sphere completely enclosing the antenna, the 441 columns in this case. If you want to plot the amplitude and phase distribution of these fields, you can take the abs() value for the amplitude and the angle() value for the phase and plot them accordingly.

I have another doubt. I am using the following code shown below;

MATLAB CODE:

x = [-1:0.01:1];

y = [-1:0.01:1];

[X,Y] = meshgrid(x,y);

p = [X(:)';Y(:)';0.125*ones(1,prod(size(X)))];

figure

EHfields(arr,2.4e9,p);

The above code plots the vector E and H fields on x-y plane; at a distance z = 0.125 m.

Since I want to plot only the phase of E-field on x-y plane. How do I proceed?

You can go to View -> Plot Browser and disable plot for H field.
