converting matlab into python using an official matlab add on

I have a bunch of code I want to to turn from matlab to python, while at the same time refactoring.

Are there official add-ons I can use or is this SMOP tool that has been developoed by a third party a better option?

There's little incentive for TMW to build a product to move away from MATLAB; doubt that will ever come to pass...interacting with or calling to/from is different than translating.

I understand that MathWorks don't want to direct people over to a rival platform. However I want to do the work to help me a) understand the code I have been asked to work with better b) understand coding prionciples better in general c) to refactor and streamline for the benefit of the project

That, of course, is all up to you and what your employer wants you spending your time/their resources doing...
