A) Windows Firewall might be blocking internal communications on port 31415; or

B) You might be trying to run R2018b on a Windows 32 machine.

Still receiving error after turning McAfee Firewall off AND added access rule for permitting port 31415. Running 64 bit version of Windows 10 on 64 bit machine. Note that this error does not occur with R2016b installed on same PC and User as R2018b.

I would recommend a reinstall. If that does not work then I recommend contacting Mathworks for free installation support.

I've tried multiple installs in different drive location, all resulting in the same error behavior. I can try tech support, but I find it curious that R2016b works just fine, which is installed in the same root folder as R2018b. (Each of the releases are in different subfolders off the same root folder). Thanks for the response.
