finding the extreme points

I have a set a=[0.4,0.3,0.48,0.32,0.12,0.42] .I plotted this plot(a).I need to find all the extreme points (minimum and maximum)and I need to mark it in the graph.How I can do this.Please help me.

What have you tried? I doubt it would be difficult to find the max and min functions.

Using max and min functions finding the maximun and minimum functions is possible.But how to find all extreme points.Then how can I mark all the extreme points in a.

There are only 2 extreme points. If you want to find local maxima and minima you should try the findpeaks function. Your vector seems a bit too small for local minima and maxima to make sense.

The image you posted doesn't make sense to me. The red markers don't seem to indicate local minima or maxima. So if you're looking to reproduce those red markers I don't know how to help you because your description is insufficient. If you want local minima and maxima, use the findpeaks function.
