How to erode certain parts of an image

Hey does anyone know the best way to erode certain parts of a binary image. I need to get rid of the left hand side that is the black box with the stars and IRL in it and the dashes between 131 CN 37.

I have tried imerode rectangle, square, disk and non of them have gotten rid of what I needed. Any help would be great!

You can do that in multiple ways:

result1=bwareafilt(binary_image,1);
result2=~bwareafilt(~result1,9);
imshow(result2)
