Replacing array elements with cell elements

I am creating a code that generates a huffman dictionary, after creating the dictionary i need to sent the message in a compressed notation, but i don't really understand how to do this. but i can't use the inbuilt functions.

Once a huffman dictionary created for an alphanumeric data from the message with the probability of occurences obtained from their ASCII values, an encoded bit sequence will be obtained for unique alphanumeric data by huffman encoding. Now compare every ASCII value of the alphanumeric data in the message with the ASCII values of the unique data in the dictionary and the corresponding encoded bit sequence is transmitted.
