I try to understand the basics.
  1. Can 'matrix' have non-numerical data?
  2. What is the difference of a matrix of numbers and a cell array of numbers?
  3. Is it correct to say that a table is a generalization of a matrix that can include non-numerical data?

Can 'matrix' have non-numerical data?
No matrix cannot have a non-numerical data. Eleemnts are accessed by matrix(i,j)
What is the difference of a matrix of numbers and a cell array of numbers?
A cell array can have non-numerical data, arrays of different sizes, matrices of different sizes. They will be accessed by {}.
Is it correct to say that a table is a generalization of a matrix that can include non-numerical data?
It need not be.
