Why do I receive a warning message when using MATLAB 7.1 (R14SP3) on Redhat ES 4 server?

I receive the following error message when starting MATLAB:
ERROR: Cannot convert string "-b&h-luxi sans-medium-r-normal--*-140-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct

This is not a MATLAB error, rather a display issue with the operating system. Sun reported this issue as a bug. You can find more information about this issue at the following link:
