Digital tool for the visualization of axial-flow turbines profiles on a plane containing both the axial and tangential components of the flow in order to provide users an application to enhance the comprehension of the fluid flows along turbomachinery. Hence, through a graphical interface, users can generate different axial-flow turbine geometries by varying key characteristic parameters (reaction degree, load & flow coefficient) and observe the fluid flow paths and velocity diagrams. Furthermore, efficiency contour charts are displayed in order to understand the the impact of the key characteristic parameters.
This new version allows both "zero-dimensional" and "one-dimensional" analysis. This new 1D feature provides a fast pre-design tool for studying the evolution of aero-thermodynamic variables and turbine geometry calculations.
The graphical user interface serves as a valuable educational resource, both in the classroom and for self-study purposes. During theory lessons, teachers can employ the tool to effectively communicate the concepts of velocity diagrams and their construction. The visualization offered by the tool aid in illustrating the flow characteristics, enabling students to grasp the fundamental principles more readily. Moreover, students can use the tool to practice and reinforce their theoretical knowledge, as well as enhance their problem-solving skills. The application allows them to engage in numerical exercises, such as velocity diagram representation and stage efficiency calculations, utilizing established correlations.
