INC is a function designed to simplify increments of variables. For example,

"inc my_variable_name"

produces the same result as

"my_variable_name = my_variable_name + 1;"

but takes a lot less time to write out.

"inc variable 5" will increment VARIABLE by 5 (any arbitrary value OK)

INC works on a variable in the local workspace, be it the base workspace or within a function, without producing any output to the command line.
