Why do I receive an error message 554 (mail rejected for policy reasons) when using SENDMAIL in MATLAB?

When I am running a simple test calling sendmail like:

sendmail('[e-mail]','test','test')

MATLAB reports the following error:

??? Error using ==> sendmail at 168

554 Mail from [e-mail] rejected for policy reasons.

This error usually indicates that your email adress may be listed on the recipients black list, so it is actually not issued by SENDMAIL, but received from the recipients mail server. You should try to verify this issue with the recipient. Also setting a different FROM address might help. You can set one like this:

setpref('Internet','E_mail','[e-mail]');
