How can I implement Multi Camera Surveillance System in Matlab?

How do I start with this project, as I'm a newbie can anybody help me out with which method I can implement? I need the camera to track a object or person and when the object is out of camera's range then the next camera should directly trigger and tell us that, that object which was previously there is now here. Is this possible? I've heard about correspondence of objects between different cameras is established by using a Bayesian Belief Network. Can I use this for multiple camera surveillance system?
