Can my compiled code open .txt, .dat, .csv, or .xlsx?

I have code that requires input from an external file that cannot be included at the time of compiling. I have written several versions in which the data is loaded into the workspace from each format. This works when the code is run in Matlab but after it has been compiled it fails to load the data. So far I have only been able to access .mat files with my compiled code. Does anyone know the solution to this?
