In a script, I set a=10, then I run the script, then I change a=5 in the script, then I run the script again and it shows a=10.

Again, either your script is actually a function or you're not doing what you think you're doing...but unless you post the actual script and the results, we have no way to begin to see what you've done wrong. Just telling us something doesn't help at all remotely...

It is my understanding that variables in MATLAB Workspace are not getting updated until you restart the MATLAB. There could be few reasons due to which variables will not be updated in the workspace.
