Appdesigner UITable - Display only the decimal part of big number

Hi all,

I know this is a kintergarden kind of question.

I have a UITable in the Appdesginer.

The output keep showing in e format.

I tried adding the line format long, format short, format longG... everything. It still shows the same format as in yellow.

I want it to display a normal decimal format as 4644.8

Is there any way to do that ?

uitable doesn't (well, the underlying table display doesn't either) have the ability to set a specific format string by column, unfortunately, and the choices available (and way MATLAB uses the ones that are) are quite limited with the format function.

I see only two choices, neither particularly palatable--

1. format bank, format compact
2. write the values to strings with compose and '%.1f'

The first will display everything with two decimal digits, including integers and numbers <0.01 so that may not be at all acceptable for the given purpose while the second requires physically converting the numeric values to/from strings to display.

AFAIK, there is no other way to set a specific format...

I used the num2str() and it worked perfectly.

I didn't say it couldn't be done, just that it's a pain. If it's one-way only to display, that's not too bad; it's decoding back if user can change that gets to be a hassle.

If, however, that solved the Q?, then go ahead and Accept the answer to indicate so to the community...
