The directional valve 304 is set to connect port 2 and 4 (port A and B of the piston). Now, when applying a force on the piston R, an error occurs. When connecting A and B directly (without valve 304) the piston moves back to cap C, as expected. Why does it not work with the valve though? There is a connection between 2 and 4, I checked, for a brief moment there is mass flow from port A to B, before the error pops up.

I took a quick look at the model and simulation results. Looks like one cylinder is moving, as the pressure builds up inside. Its movement then engaged two hardstops and later push/pull on the other cylinder (the one where the error is triggered). That piston moved a little but the directional valves connecting to the fluid chambers are fully closed so no fluid can come in. The chamber that's expanding therefore sees a huge & quick pressure drop. Is the valve supposed to do something at this moment by allowing the flow through? I don't know enough about the system itself to comment further.
