I wanted to install MATLAB 2015a on my laptop running Xubuntu 14.04. I have used 2014a on this machine with Xubuntu 12.04 before. In order to migrate my preferences, I first installed MATLAB 2014b, ran it once, then installed 2015a. The problem I'm facing is that MATLAB won't quit under some conditions. I'm not sure about 2014b, since I only ran it once and then deleted it again, so I can't check that anymore. I have renamed the preference folders in ~/.matlab to see if i could narrow down the problem and have come up with a way to reliably reproduce the error:
- open MATLAB and wait for the Ready status
- maximize MATLAB window
- open preferences
- close preferences
- click close button => nothing happens
- or run "quit" or "quit force" in command window => status changes to busy, but nothing happens
Now it get's a little fuzzy: sometimes MATLAB will quit normally after the next start, sometimes it will keep ignoring quit. Deleting ~/.matlab/R2015a always restores normal behavior.
There are many more conditions that result in MATLAB not quiting, in fact, I have to kill MATLAB almost everytime I do more than just open and close.
I'm downloading 2014a right now, to see if the problem occurs there, too.
UPDATE: R2014a quits without problems (and runs much faster).

Hi Gregor Z,
Have you tried to reset the Preferences in MATLAB or restarting the machine? Do you still get the same behaviour? Are you using any Third-Party libraries ?
If resetting preferences and restarting the machine does not help in solving the issue, please contact Technical Support by creating a new case: Create new Case
Hope this helps.
Thanks
