Append data to existing XML File

I have written one function XYZ() which writes a data to XML file. When I am calling this function second time , its overwriting Existing XML file while I want to append the data to the same file. XML file structure is quite complicated to much child elements associated with its parent element. I have tried using 'xmlread' and 'getElementByTagName'.

Can anyone suggest on this ?
