how to tick out yearly?

Does anyone knows how to tick out yearly? I am using set(gca,'TickDir','out'); it is working but my ticks is appearing in every 10 years. I need ticks out yearly.

So how do I tick out yearly?

Thanka Azzi, again for your answer. In the plot it is appearing yearly tick inside. I needed it tick outside.

Also I have big data, time range is 1950-2016 in years. I can not display every year on my plot. I need display every 10 years with yearly ticks outside on x axis.
