Matlab startup painfully slow

I have the license file in my startup command.

I get the following for the timing of startup: Toolbox Path Cache read in 0.01 seconds. MATLAB Path initialized in 18.86 seconds.

My path does not seem excessive, with the vast majority of it 'default' toolbox path. Note that even after it displays these times, there is about a minute or more of delay before I get a prompt.

It can have multiple reasons. If articles like this one do not help you, I suggest calling installation support. In is more efficient and effective to go through the options live on the phone.

When I do the following it improves startup for the first 2-3 times, and then it is slow again:

Make sure you have enabled viewing of hidden files and folders first)

1) Quit MATLAB. Ensure that MATLAB is no longer running.

2) Browse to the folder c:\Documents and Settings\ username\Application Data\MathWorks\MATLAB\ OR c:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming

3) Rename the directory named after the version of MATLAB you are using to have _old at the end. If there is a folder with "_licenses" in the name, DO NOT rename that folder.

4) Once this has been removed, restart MATLAB. This directory will be recreated the next time you start MATLAB.
