Yesterday (22nd Sept) the getgenpept function in the bioinformatics toolbox stopped working for a few hours whilst the NCBI were testing their new protocol requiring https instead of http. There are a couple more test slots scheduled ( NCBI https tests ) and it will switch over completely from Tuesday (27th Sept).
I'm currently teaching a course which relies on this function for getting the data for much of the coursework. I will obviously download the key data for future assignments before Tuesday and make it available to the students, but I was wondering if anyone could come up with a Matlab based work-around, for my students as I would prefer for them to not be limited to the data I provide.

After the transition to https at NCBI (effective November 2016), GETGENBANK, GETGENPEPT and other functions accessing NCBI web servers fail.
You can download a patch for previous releases here .
