Matlab R2016b centos 7 graphics bugs

I'm running Matlab R2016b on centos 7 and there seems to be some display issues. I'm not sure if they are related or separate issues, but I'll post them all at once in case they point anyone in the correct direction.
1) When hovering over variables/warnings/errors, the blue dialog box pops up without any text displayed within. The buttons (i.e. "Fix") are not visible, but clicking where they would be still operates the button.
2) Autofill boxes and menus sometimes appear in random places around the screen or on different screens.
3) When opening large images, zooming with the magnifying tool will not start the box where the mouse is initially clicked.
Does anyone have any ideas about what may be causing this issue?

Did you post a similar question earlier but remove it? I know within the last few days I read a post with much the same wording about clicking where the buttons would be.

No, I started the question early in the day but didn't post until late in the day. Hopefully it didn't show up in an interim state.

I was also having weird graphics bugs when using Matlab R2016b on CentOS 7, like the boxes appearing and random places. Also choosing an area to zoom into in graphs wouldn't working right. These problems would happen on GNOME and GNOME classic GUIs, but using MATE seemed to solve it.

Unfortunately I don't have permissions on the system to switch from gnome but I will let my IT department know. Thanks for the response!
