In 2015aSP1 you could expand the java heap size to a manual input size (say 95GB) and it would accept it. Seems like in 2016a that is not possible, anyone know a work around?

You are aware that increasing the Java heap size won't help at all with out of memory errors in matlab. On the contrary increasing the Java heap size may reduce the memory available to matlab to store its matrices.
Matlab uses Java mostly for its graphics and networking code. I suspect that if you have 95 GB worth of Java graphics objects, graphics updates would be so slow as to be unusable.

Yes I do realize this for a standard use of MatLab. However when you are using a Java plug in to read in and parse serial streams, the Java heap is the limiting factor for those operations.
