Gaussian process regression and kriging modeling

My question is about similarity/difference of Gaussian process regression (fitrgp command) with kriging meta-modeling. If these two estimation methods are virtually the same (as stated in the Matlab Help), why everyone does not use the simple command (fitrgp) and people are positing/searching Matlab codes for kriging?
