Why am I unable to use port (like COM7) in the MATLAB when I connect the same port to tera term?

The most common reason for this error is that the port you're trying to connect to (in this case, COM7) is already in use by another application. Serial ports can generally only be connected to by one application at a time. If you have Tera Term or any other serial communication application open and connected to COM7, MATLAB will not be able to establish a connection to the same port until it is released by the other application.
