How to set X axis limit as 10 to power 1 up to 10 to power 5

set(hAx(1),'XLim',[1e1 1e5])

What problem you have with this? YOu can straight away use xlim eh.

set( hAxes, 'XScale', 'log' )

will give you the logarithmic axes scale which you can combine with XLim. I can't remember off-hand when logarithmic axes were introduced, but I think it was a long time ago so whatever version you are using this should work.
