How to make mdfimport tool v1.3 work for matlab 2017a

I am using mdfimport tool v1.3 to import .dat files into matlab workspace. The tool works just fine with 2014a however gives a bunch of errors with 2017a. I was wondering if there is a fix for 2017a already or is there a newer version of mdfimport tool that works with 2017a
