Are the wavelet coefficients obtained after dwt2() transform normalized?

I have a norrmalized input image I . Are the coefficients obtained after the DWT normalized in matlab. Is there any approach to normalize the values of the coefficients obtained? Because the output after the transformation has negative values. How is it preserved?
