- The words default, factory, and remove are reserved words that will not appear in text when quoted as a normal characters. To display any of these words individually, precede them with a backslash, such as '\default' or '\remove'.
- If you specify this property as a categorical array, MATLAB® uses the values in the array, not the categories.

Why there is no text shown, displaying 'default' in text and legend?
I would like to plot this here and the text 'default' is missing:
plot(1,1);
legend('default');

This is not a bug and documented behavior.
Please escape 'default' with the following character '\' so it looks like:
\default
If this is not working in R2019a, do the following:
\\default
We will improve the documentation on this in the future.
The behavior is the same for 'factory' and 'remove'.
