Others have reported Matlab being very slow. As a newbie, I find this performance extraordinary and very de-motivating. I have signed on and paid for a Student licence £100 ish with a half a dozen apps for control eng
Matlab takes ca 2 mins to intitialise and leaves you with a stuck screen not even giving a rotating wheel to tell you its not stuck.
When putting in even simple expressions these can take a minute to compute (Xcel in a heartbeat). The cursor disappears and the chevrons, takes ages to return
Have I got a crippled version for students?
Is it an on line version ?
should I disable my apps I am not using just now?
I have R2019
and a newish PC W8.1. it runs fine on other stuff. I only have windows defender
surely commercial orgs couldnt put up with this performance
what am I doing wrong?
please help - sorry if this makes me a numpty
Robin

"Have I got a crippled version for students?" No, there are no crippled versions.
Something is obviously wrong. You are entitled to Installation Help

this problem has been solved, users must dl then earlier version 2018 of ML and check suitability for W8.1
ML was careless in not advising new users, I wasted 2 days on this problem
hope ML has fixed this

I doubt this is the problem.
Just be sure to understand what this does prior to trying it out.

Hello Robin,
This is a link to the System Requirements to install and run MATLAB on your PC -
On this page, if you navigate to the Windows requirements for the releases R2017b and R2018b, you'll find that Windows 8 is not supported as of R2017b, and Windows 8.1 is not supported as of R2018b.
Hope this helps!
