Filter out imagesc plots

Hi guys,

I have a mat file of a range - doppler plot which produces the following image

How can I filter out the smudges to reveal the focussed points? I have tried imgaussfilt but the results are undesirable.

You may check the @Image Anayst answer to remove smudges from an image, suggested to use CLAHE (adapthisteq)
