External GPU (MacOS) makes Help painfully slow

I have added an external Radeon RX 570 GPU to my 2019 MacBook Pro running MacOS Catalina. I enabled "Prefer external GPU" in Get Info for the MATLAB app.

MATLAB runs fine, but Help runs painfully slow compared to when I didn't have the external GPU. For instance, there's about a one second delay between typing a character into the search box and it appearing there.

Is there an explanation for this strabnge behaviour, or a solution?

I assume it's because the graphics are rendering using your eGPU. Try launching MATLAB using the -softwareopengl option - or just run opengl software right after startup.

Joss, software opengl is not available on Mac.
