For future reference: even if sometimes staff members look on this forum and post from time to time, the help on this forum is mostly provided by people who are doing this as a volunteer. You can contact Mathworks support directly with the 'Contact Us' button at the top of the page.

Hi George - New versions of our courses are released a few months after the MATLAB release. We are working on the R2020a version of the courses and they will be released soon.

Anything you do with Matlab for a decade will be much more valuable than showing that certificate. I guess it is nice to be able to put it on your CV for your first job, but I don't see how getting the certificate for R2019b would hold you back in any way, especially since you indicate you will redo the Onramp anyway.
As they are just PDF files, they each will last the exact same length of time. I would suggest doing the Onramp for any relatively new release and then follow the advice in this thread.

Agree 100% with you but here's my rationale.
Some of your comments are true but employers don't really understand the cert landscape today. Too much is changing.
HR/Recruiters will not care about 2021, 2022 certs just a long as it's recent. Online badging has advantages not available with paper certs.
