Computer Vision with Color Detection for Video Analysis Help

I am trying to analyze a video of a spinning object to detect how many times it spun and it what amount of time. I am on the first step of trying to figure out how to get MATLAB to detect that the object is spinning by using color detection since the object is a different color on opposite sides. I was hoping to combine the features of color detection and computer vision but the only help I have found has been from older codes that are not working well with what I have because they have been using still images for detection, or videos of counting microbes, nothing that has been compatible with my issue. Is there an easier way to do this with MATLAB besides going in and trying to adjust and combine all these different devices? Or could someone at least lead me in the right direction with how to go about this and what methods to use?
