I read in a tutorial that
"A short-cut for retyping commands is to press the up-arrow, which will go back to the previously typed command(s). For example, if you decided to assign the result of the expression 6 3 to the variable myvar instead of using the default ans, you could press the up-arrow and then the left-arrow to modify the command rather than retyping the whole statement:"
Is this option available when we type the comands in command window or does this work in the Mfile also. I was unable to make it work in M file

You cannot do that in m-file. It is for command window. Also have a look on history.

Only in the command window.
In a .m file, you can use copy/paste
