Mtalb is evaluating the determinate of the matrix with the wring sign

C=[3,1,-3;1,4,2;-3,2,5]
det(C)

ans =5,

while the correct one is -5

which MATLAB version are you using? What shows up for

which -all det

We can tell by your output that you are not using one of the releases from the last few years, but we cannot tell which release you are running.

Looking at that output, I think you might be running a version earlier than R2012a ?
