What Does "Enable decoupled continuous integration" Mean?

"Enable decoupled continuous integration" is an option in the Simulink Solver pane. Can anyone explain what setting the parameter On or Off actually does? The doc page doesn't explain what "coupling" and "decoupling" mean and how this setting impacts how the solver works.
