Hi, I'm trying to find a way to simplify data Visualisation for a GUI/App, the data (see attached) is just a series of 3D coordinates with associated temperatures. In this case the data is for a plate, but it can be any simple prism or cylinder, size and orientation.
To date I've been using scatter3 to visualise the data, but the plots are quite slow when using the Rotate 3D, Pan or Zoom tools. I was looking for a way to plot an outer 'shell' of the data and I've tried some variations of Patch, Plotcube and Cylinder and eventually finding alphaShape which achieves what I want simply and quickly. However because of the number of coordinates (usually double what's in the attached file) I get a dense mesh, as in the figure below, which in turn is still slow to use the Rotate, Pan etc tools.
Is there a way to reduce this mesh or perhaps an alternative function which would suit my purpose? I don't mind if the number of the number of elements going into the alphaShape function is less, as it's just for visualisation.
Thanks,
Nathan.

Use reducepatch
It reduces the numer of faces. you can either reduces by precentage of your current faces or specify the amount of faces you want for your object.
If you need more help please let me know i be happy to write out a script in more detail

Hi Jonne,
Thank you so much for your reply and apologies for the delay in mine, I've only recently been able to get back onto this project.
I'd greatly appreciate your offer for an example script, as I'm able to get vertex data from my alphaShape but not face data, I assume that I'm just missing/missunderstanding something.
Thanks again for your time,
Nathan.
