Matlabpool hangs on open

Hi all, I am trying to do matlabpool open 2 but it just keeps hanging.

Tried validating the cluster in the Parallel toolbox cluster manager and I cannot progress beyond "Job creation" step.. it keeps on running without completion.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Running Matlab 2013a on OSX 10.9.2 Java 1.6.0_65

There are multiple reasons why this might fail. I suggest contacting MathWorks installation support to help solve this.
