Hello there :)
I would like to know whether there are any compatibility issues between a Simulink file made with an older version (e.g. R2020b) and a new MATLAB version (e.g. R2022b). I am about to uninstall the previous version that I have (R2020b) in order to install the most recent one (R2022b). I remember I tried to do the same in March 2022 but I registered some compatibility problems with my Simulink files, and that is strange because usually a newer MATLAB version should be able to read and run older Simulink versions files.
Second question is related to the unistall procedure. I have a MacBook and in /Users/alessandropersico/Library/Application Support/MathWorks/MATLAB I find several folders referring to some MATLAB versions: R2016b, R2020a, ..., R2022a. I wonder if it is correct to delete the entire folder MathWorks before installing the newest MATLAB version. I guess that in this way nothing from previous versions will remain in my hard disk.
Thank you for your help :)

  1. You can follow the steps mentioned under “Save from Earlier Simulink Version to Another Earlier Version” Section in the following documentation to prevent any compatibility issues : https://www.mathworks.com/help/simulink/ug/saving-a-model.html
  2. It is not necessary to uninstall previous versions of MATLAB before installing a new version. The default MATLAB installation path includes the name of the release, so each release of MATLAB installs into a unique folder to prevent different releases of MATLAB from interfering with each other. You can refer to the answer section of the following MATLAB Answer for more details. : https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/98140-do-older-releases-of-matlab-need-to-be-uninstalled-to-install-a-newer-release-of-matlab

Yes. The Function Block (not the same as MATLAB Function Block) no longer exists. You might want to hold on to one of your previous versions.
The ApplicationSupport folder includes license files in release-specific folders.
I do not recall at the moment where Add-ons are stored... might be there.

The default add-on installation folder locations per platform are listed on this documentation page.

Thanks, Steven, looks like the Add-on do go in that folder
