Hi,
Could you elaborate on what you mean by leaf detection? Are you trying to do image segmentation? Here are a few resources which might be useful:

You might not need to. You might be able to just use simple thresholding but since you forgot to read this link and attach an image, we have no idea. Please attach some images.
